The visual identity and poster design for the 2024 edition of Miss Read were inspired by the abstraction of, firstly, books and, secondly, duct tape—a material that evokes the tactile, handcrafted quality of artistically made printed matter. The lettering created from these shapes resembles a loosely arranged bookshelf while also symbolizing a space for creation, collaboration, and play.

The fair’s 2024 focus on Afro-feminist and queer voices guided the development of a color palette that subtly references these themes. The typeface “Activist” by Brownfox was selected for its functional, minimalist aesthetic. Its clean, modern style perfectly complements the playful nature of the graphics, resulting in a cohesive and dynamic visual identity for the poster and all applications.

The animated poster further embodies the fair’s celebratory and playful spirit, reflecting the vibrant atmosphere of Miss Read.
